How to Stay Newsworthy After Your Big Launch Campaign Ends
Amber Daines | 28 April, 2025Β
I love it when a big launch is done. When it works, it works. The media coverage was strong, the buzz was real, and your team felt visible, important and uplifted. But now what?
Running those big launches is no longer my core thing.
In my 20s and 30s, I organised large-scale events and launch parties for clients, which was great fun. However, it can also lead to a false sense of PR achievement.
New things get coverage and social media-worthy images and video content.
Yet it is not usually sustainable as a PR plan to keep your business or brand top of mind.
One of the most common post-launch mistakes brands make is going quiet. While your launch campaign might have had a natural news hook β a new product, rebrand, or major announcement β staying visible in the media long-term requires a more deliberate and strategic approach.
Here are 7 steps to maintain momentum and stay newsworthy after the fanfare subsides.
1. Think Like a Newsroom, Not a Billboard
A launch is often about shouting: “Look at us!” But the next phase is about contributing value. Consider what your business can offer to the media as an ongoing source β insights, trends, or commentary.
π Tip: Position your leaders as expert commentators. Pitch them for op-eds or quick quotes tied to timely news stories in your industry.
2. Keep the Narrative Evolving
The media loves a good follow-up. Did your launch exceed expectations? Are there unexpected customer stories or results you can share? Can we update you on a new product or service that has yet to launch?
π Tip: Plan a “six months on” story that revisits your launch goals and showcases traction, testimonials, or metrics.
3. Make Data Your Friend
You may not have a new product to announce every quarter, but you do have data to share. Whether it’s customer trends, user behaviour, or internal insights, proprietary data can be turned into a goldmine of content.
π Tip: Create a quarterly insights report or “state of the industry” snapshot and offer it to journalists as exclusive content.
4. Celebrate Quiet Wins Loudly
Don’t underestimate the PR power of awards, partnerships, hires, or CSR initiatives. These smaller milestones can be spun into stories that demonstrate momentum and impact.
π Tip: Build a rolling PR calendar that includes evergreen milestones β not just the big bang moments.
5. Stay Agile with Reactive PR
You’ll miss real-time opportunities if you’re too focused on planned announcements. Monitor the news cycle and be prepared to respond with a comment, blog post, or social media post when the opportunity arises.
π Tip: Set up Google Alerts or use a media monitoring tool to track trending topics where your voice would add value.
6. Repurpose, Repackage, Repeat
Your launch content still has legs if you know how to remix it. Turn press release highlights into thought leadership posts, podcast interviews, or short videos for social media.
π Tip: Not everyone saw your big splash the first time. To extend its shelf life, reuse it in fresh formats and channels.
7. What matters mostβ¦
Staying newsworthy isn’t always about having somethingΒ new; it’s also about being relevant. When you shift from campaign-based visibility to an always-on PR mindset, you keep your brand in the conversation, long after that event-day champagne is finished!Β
